RWE has begun commissioning the first 100 MW phase of its GET H2 Nukleus green hydrogen plant in Lingen, Germany, marking it as Europe’s largest facility of its kind. The electrolyser is expected to enter commercial operation in 2026 and represents the initial stage of a planned 300 MW project aimed at significantly expanding renewable hydrogen production capacity. The development also includes underground hydrogen storage infrastructure to help balance supply during periods of fluctuating renewable power generation.

Under a 15-year offtake agreement, RWE will supply approximately 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year to TotalEnergies’ Leuna refinery starting in 2030, delivered via Germany’s emerging core hydrogen network. The long-term contract supports industrial decarbonisation by replacing fossil-based hydrogen and aligns with Germany’s broader strategy to build an integrated, resilient hydrogen economy.
