Ambuja Cements has partnered with UK-based clean technology company Leilac to develop a commercial-scale low-carbon cement production pathway at its Sanghipuram plant in Gujarat’s Kutch district. The collaboration will test advanced carbon capture and hybrid electrification technologies aimed at reducing emissions from cement manufacturing, a sector that remains one of the largest industrial sources of carbon dioxide.
The project forms part of Ambuja’s broader decarbonisation strategy and supports its net-zero emissions target for 2050. If successful, the initiative could scale up to capture more than one million tonnes of CO₂ annually, while reducing dependence on coal and increasing the use of renewable energy in cement production.
