Indonesia Targets 12 Million Hectares for Reforestation and Carbon Credits
Indonesia has announced plans to restore 12 million hectares of degraded land as part of a major environmental and carbon credit strategy. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said the initiative aims to strengthen climate action while opening new opportunities in international carbon markets.
The government is also updating carbon trading regulations to support global carbon credit sales linked to reforestation projects. Officials said local communities will be involved in the projects to improve transparency and sustainability, even as concerns remain over rising forest loss and land governance challenges.
